The Missouri Synod Lutherans believe that they are receiving Christ, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, in Communion. Of course, they have no priesthood nor a Mass, so they are worshipping and receive only bread and wine. Very often their “altars” face ad orientem and they have “Communion” rails. A Missouri Synod pastor told me that he thinks that Gregory the Great was the last true pope, making him a sede-vacantist for 1,400 years now! In addition, their moral theology seems to be identical to ours, with the exception of their toleration of a second “marriage” after divorce. (But we are hardly better, with our easy annulments.) So close in so many ways but ultimately so, so far away.
